Sketch 1: Intro to Comedy Writing |

(10 weeks) $385 Ten 3-hour classes. Prerequisite: None. This class will introduce students to the craft of sketch comedy writing. Beginning with character monologues and parodies, students will be taught to write and develop their own material with the help of improv techniques. Editing, staging and performance skills will be taught and applied to the material. The final class will be a performance, hosted by the instructor. NOTE: Although there is no formal prerequisite for the class, a strong improv background is highly recommended as preparation for this course; ideally GCI's Improv Level 1. |

Sketch 2: Production Workshop |

(10 weeks) $450
Ten 3-hour classes, plus two performances of an original sketch show.
Prerequisite: Sketch 1.
Sketch 2 will focus squarely on writing, editing and preparing original, multi-character sketches for production. Emphasis will be on developing unique, original material. Students will work together to produce an original sketch comedy show to be performed at GCI. Students who successfully complete the course will leave with at least one audience-tested sketch to add to their writing portfolios. |
