ABOUT GOTHAM CITY IMPROV

The genesis of Gotham City Improv was in Los Angeles. In 1987, members of the famed comedy troupe THE GROUNDLINGS made the trek to New York City to establish an outpost. It became known as THE GROUNDLINGS EAST.

This intrepid group of comic writers and performers were led by current Board member and Director of Corporate Entertainment, Hilaury Stern. Within a few short years the group had grown into a new name, one more suited to its new locale: GOTHAM CITY IMPROV.

For years, GCI was known for its inventive and wildly funny improv and sketch shows, its superior training program, and as a leader in the field of corporate entertainment.

Then in 1999, GCI opened its very own theater, renovating an old martial arts studio into a 50 seat black box theater, complete with lobby, office, and rehearsal space.

Since then, GCI has grown from a single troupe into a full service comedy theater offering a steady supply of both improvised and scripted shows, featuring multiple performing groups, and guest performers who rank among the best in their field.
In addition, Gotham has expanded its training program into a full blown school of comedy, with offerings in everything from teen improv to commercial voice-over training, to film & video.

Recent GCI highlights:
– Chosen as the Second Stage venue for 2003 Del Close Marathon.
– The cast of our show, OFF THE TOP OF OUR HEADS, competed in and won the 2003 Big Apple Improv Festival, earning the title “Best Improv Group in New York,” from the Festival’s producers.
– GCI was represented at the 2003 New York International Fringe Festival by no less than 11 of its writers, directors and performers.
– Our show, THE McKELLOG REPORT, was a hit at the 2004 Dirty South Improv Festival.
– GCI headlined the annual AIDS PROJECT HARTFORD BENEFIT in March 2004.
